12 notes: 1 Welcome to this year’s
National. The committee and EBTC worked hundreds of hours to provide
you with a unique and special experience.
In order for you to walk away with many wonderful memories, get
involved. You can volunteer to
help with any event, around the hotel, donate a trophy, buy specialty items,
or lend a hand to someone in need and make their job easier. Sign-up for EVERYTHING!
Don’t miss the Salmon Bake, seminars, welcome night, canine
freestyle, Terv Two Miler, CERF and Microchip clinic, and Awards Banquet.
ENTER YOUR DOG! National
Specialties should not be about winning, but participating.
Enjoy many different events with your Tervuren; your dog doesn’t care
about ribbons or trophies. It
does not matter if this is your first National or you’ve been attending for
years, it is up to each one of us to take responsibility for the ABTC’s
reputation. We ALL need to follow
the ABTC guidelines; keep our rooms tidy and clean up after our dogs. Thanks to the ABTC’s reputation, we were able to secure The
Westcoast Silverdale Hotel, our host hotel.
We will be their first dog show. Please
do your part so future ABTC National Specialties can continue to obtain
wonderful hotels that other clubs could not. Please don’t hesitate to contact me, or others on the
committee if you have any questions. Nancy McClure, Show Chair The

Bait: Complimentary fresh liver and Great Bait® will be available at ringside for exhibitors. Climate:
Be
prepared for anything. This is a
time of year when we can have beautiful, warm, sunny weather.
But, it is the Pacific Northwest, famous for rain and showers.
Evenings are usually still cool at this time of year.
Normal highs for the month range in the mid 60’s and lows are
typically in the mid 40’s. Normal
precipitation for the month is reportedly 2.2 inches.
We are also on the water so cool breezes could very well be a factor.
Combined with possible rain it might get down right cold.
Dressing in layers is highly recommended.
This is so you can add and remove layers as needed. Under
extreme weather conditions, outdoor events held at the host hotel may be moved
indoors. Dog Food and Water
will not be sold at the Show. You
will be able to purchase these at the grocery & pet supply stores near the street from
the host hotel. Ex-Pens may be used outdoors
during the day at the host hotel to contain dogs only.
Dogs, however, will need to be pottied in designated areas.
The hotel will run the sprinklers on the lawn each night so all ex-pens
and equipment will need to be removed in the evening. Grooming is not allowed in the
rooms. Please comply with the
ABTC standards of conduct (refer to back inside cover of this brochure) and
uphold our excellent reputation as guests at our National Specialty sites.
There will be a designated outdoor grooming area available with tents,
power, bathing facilities, and limited tables and blowers. Returned Checks: Checks received by the
Specialty committee that are returned by the bank unpaid will be dealt with in
accordance with ABTC policy, i.e., if a bad check is not made good, loss of
membership privileges will occur. A
penalty fee of $20.00 shall be charged for each bad check received. Website: Please visit us at our link on the ABTC website, www.abtc.org or by
going directly to: abtc2002national01.tripod.com.

insert We feel very fortunate to be able to use the
Westcoast Silverdale Hotel as our Specialty site. This hotel does not normally accept dogs but agreed to give
us an opportunity to show them that we will be welcomed guests.
Since we contracted with them, several other breeds
have scheduled their Specialties at this hotel. As their first Specialty, please, help us to demonstrate that
the Hotel Management made a wise decision and perhaps they will pass along a
good recommendation throughout their chain of hotels for possible future
specialty sites. Policy
on Standards of Behavior by ABTC Members attending National (and other)
Specialty Shows The ABTC has an excellent history of maintaining its
Specialty headquarters and show site in good condition.
Rings, grooming areas and hotel rooms occupied by its members are
expected to be left with no appreciable damage, and as clean as possible, after
the Specialty is over. As a measure of insuring that this standard will be met, the
Club, as a matter of policy sets forth the following standards of behavior. 1.
No dog should be left uncrated in a hotel room in the absence of the room
occupants at any time. 2.
Dogs that constitute a nuisance to the other occupants of the hotel by
continual barking or howling, may subject their owners to being removed by the
hotel. 3.
There will be no extensive grooming of dogs in the hotel rooms.
Grooming will be permitted only in the areas set aside for that purpose. 4.
No dogs should be washed in hotel bathtubs, and hotel towels should not
be used on dogs for drying them or any other purpose. 5.
The external and internal premises of the hotel and show site shall be
kept free of debris and feces caused by the presence of dogs attending the
Specialty. 6.
The Club will provide a committee to inspect rooms upon member checkout,
either separately from, or in concert with, designated member from the hotel
staff. Should any room or its
contents exhibit signs of unusual wear or damage because of the presence of a
dog or dogs, the occupant of that room may be held up to censure by the Club and
shall recompense the hotel for all damages.
Offenders may be censured, held in suspension of membership, or expelled
from membership in the ABTC should the circumstances warrant. 7.
While the ABTC cannot assume legal responsibility for the actions of
individual persons attending one of its national specialties, it does
assume ethical responsibility for their actions.
It will make every effort to assure that any offending person make
redress to the hotel or show site in the event that he/she is responsible for
damage to the premises. 8.
The ABTC urges its member to carefully inspect their rooms prior to
checkout. All members of the ABTC
are expected to adhere to these Standards. Exhibitors are requested not to bring litter of
puppies to the Show Headquarters. Non-ABTC members attending the Specialty will be held
accountable to these Standards. 17
